Rainy Day Activities in the Triad for Kids

The Triad region of North Carolina, comprised of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, is known for its beautiful landscapes, rich history, and thriving arts scene. However, like any other place, it can also experience rainy days, which can make it challenging to find things to do. Fortunately, there are plenty of rainy day activities in the Traid for kids.

Museums

Museums are a great way to learn about the Triad's history, art, and science while staying dry. The Greensboro Science Center is an excellent option for families with children, as it offers interactive exhibits, an aquarium, and a zoo. The International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in learning about the history of the Civil Rights Movement. Art lovers can visit the Weatherspoon Art Museum or Greenhill in Greensboro. Children can enjoy hands-on learning at one of the Children's Museum in the Triad. There is the Miriam P. Brenner in Greensboro, Kaleideum of Winston-Salem, and Nido & Mariana Qubein Children's Museum in High Point. For any one interested in History The Greensboro History Museum is a great choice.

Indoor Sports

For those who enjoy physical activities, the Triad offers a variety of indoor sports options. Tumblebees Ultimate Gym in Greensboro offers indoor rock climbing for all skill levels. Triad Lanes in Greensboro is a popular bowling alley, and the Greensboro Ice House offers ice skating for all ages. Those who enjoy jumping can try one of the indoor trampoline parks.  Our favorite is Altitude in Greensboro. It has an inflatable obstacle course along with the trampolines and doesn’t seem as crowded as other trampoline parks.

Indoor Entertainment

Watching a movie is a classic rainy day activity, and the Red Cinemas in Greensboro offers an upscale cinema experience. You can also check out a local brewery or winery for an indoor space to hang out for a win-win for parents and kids. Safari Nation is a family entertainment center that includes a jungle gym, zipline, bumper cars, toddler playground, and inflatable activities.

Libraries

The local libraries are great. Each of the Greensboro Public Library locations have some sort of fun structure for the kids. There is a pirate ship at the Lake Jeanette location and a log cabin at the Kathleen Clay. There are several computers with educational games that your child can play. Most libraries offer storytimes with stories and songs which are great for small children. The Forsyth County Central Library has a sensory wall and coffee shop at the entrance.

Food and Drink

The Triad offers a diverse food scene, and rainy days provide the perfect opportunity to try out new restaurants. Those who prefer to cook can visit the Piedmont Triad farmers' market and buy locally sourced ingredients to prepare a meal at home. Southern Home & Kitchen in Winston-Salem offers week long kids cooking camp if there is a whole week that looks rainy.

Arts and Crafts

We are huge fans of GreenHill in downtown Greensboro, NC. My daughters love to do arts and crafts, but I don't love the mess of them at my house. haha GreenHill has all types of arts and crafts including paper crafts, stamps, painting, and clay.

While rainy days can be a bummer, the Triad region offers a wide range of indoor activities to keep visitors and residents entertained. From museums to sports to food and drink, there's something for everyone. So, the next time the weather turns gloomy, don't let it get you down. Explore the Triad and discover its many rainy day offerings. When all else fails get on the rainboots and raincoat and go play in the rain.
